Marvin Ridge High School: Programs and What Buyers Should Know

October 30, 2026•7 min read

Marvin Ridge High School is a public high school for grades 9 through 12, run by Union County Public Schools at 2825 Crane Road in Waxhaw, NC. Many Marvin buyers put it on their list. But which homes it serves depends on the exact address, and the only reliable way to know is to ask the district.

Quick Answer: Marvin Ridge High School opened in 2007, serves grades 9 through 12, and lists the Mavericks as its team, with honors and AP courses, an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and a long list of arts and clubs, based on public descriptions of the school. School assignment depends on the home's exact address, so Jennifer Ledford of The Ledford Group at eXp Realty tells Marvin buyers to confirm it with Union County Public Schools before making an offer.

I'm Jennifer Ledford with The Ledford Group at eXp Realty. I work with Marvin buyers and sellers, and the high school comes up often in the first conversation. I'll stick to facts you can check, because school information changes and I'd rather send you to the source than guess.

What are the basic facts about Marvin Ridge High School?

Based on public descriptions of the school:

- Grades: 9 through 12

- Address: 2825 Crane Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173

- Opened: 2007

- District: Union County Public Schools

- Team name: The Mavericks

The mailing address says Waxhaw, but the school sits in the Marvin area. That's one reason an address check matters. A town name on a listing doesn't tell you which school serves the home.

The school has its own website at mrhs.ucpsnc.org, which is the best place for current numbers, course lists, and contact details.

What programs does Marvin Ridge High School offer?

Public descriptions of the school list honors courses and a large number of Advanced Placement courses. One source lists 19 AP courses, and the school also lists an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Languages include Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Latin.

On the arts and activities side, the descriptions list theatre, visual arts, choir, marching band, speech and debate, student council, and more than forty clubs, including HOSA.

Course lists change from year to year. If a program matters to you, call the school and ask what's offered this year, how students sign up, and what the requirements are. I'd ask the same questions about the IB Diploma Program, since it has its own entry steps.

What about athletics at Marvin Ridge High School?

Public descriptions place the school in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 7A classification and in the Southern Carolina Conference, with around 14 sports. Those classifications get reset every few years, so check the school's athletics page for the current conference.

If your child plays a sport, ask the athletic department about tryouts, schedules, and fees. Those details change, and they're easy to get wrong from a distance.

Which schools feed into Marvin Ridge High School?

One public source lists Rea View Elementary, Marvin Elementary, Sandy Ridge Elementary, and Marvin Ridge Middle School as feeder schools. Attendance lines can change, so I wouldn't rely on that list for a decision. I've written about Marvin Ridge Middle and Marvin Elementary separately.

Will my Marvin home be assigned to Marvin Ridge High School?

Maybe. I can't tell you from here, and I won't pretend to. Assignments depend on the exact address, and districts can change attendance lines.

Here's how to confirm it:

1. Get the full street address of the home.

2. Use the district's "What School Do I Attend?" lookup on the Union County Public Schools website, or call student services.

3. Save a screenshot with the date, or ask for the answer in writing.

4. Check again before closing if the timeline is long.

I never tell a buyer that a specific house is assigned to a specific school unless the district has confirmed it. A listing page can be out of date, and so can I.

Why do buyers ask about school assignment at all?

Because it's one of the biggest unknowns in a purchase. A school can matter for daily routines, the morning drive, and where a household spends its time. It's also a personal choice.

I don't rank schools, and I don't tell you what a school will mean for your child. If you want ratings, look at the North Carolina School Report Card and any third-party ranking you trust, and note the source and the year. Then talk to the school. Visit if you can.

Which Marvin neighborhoods should I look at?

I don't assign neighborhoods to schools. The district does that. What I can do is tell you which communities are on my Marvin list: Marvin Creek, Providence Downs South, Broadmoor at Marvin, Heritage at Marvin, Sage at Marvin, Marvin Commons, and The Preserve at Marvin.

Broadmoor at Marvin, Heritage at Marvin, Sage at Marvin, and Marvin Commons are active new-construction communities, so the builder can give you current plans and availability. The Preserve at Marvin gives you an established-neighborhood option. Prices vary and change, so I'd rather show you recent sold homes than quote a range.

Check each address with the district. Then we'll compare homes on lot size, layout, HOA rules, and the commute.

What does daily life look like around Marvin?

Marvin keeps its commercial development limited, by design. That's part of the appeal for many buyers who want space and privacy. For shopping and errands, Stonecrest Shopping Center, about 5 to 10 minutes away, has a Whole Foods and a mix of retail. For a workout, Life Time Fitness Ballantyne has a pool, a spa, and group classes. For a walk, Marvin Efird Park has trails and open green space.

Drive times depend on the hour. Try your own route on a weekday morning, with the school drop-off traffic included.

What should I ask before I make an offer?

1. Which school does the district list for this exact address? 2. What is the morning drive like at school start time? 3. Are there any HOA rules or fees? 4. What have similar Marvin homes sold for in the last few months? 5. What does the lot look like (septic, well, drainage)?

Marvin lots are generally larger, and septic and well questions come up often. Ask the seller for records and check with Union County.

I work with buyers under a signed buyer agency agreement, which means you get my full attention while we look. Tell me what matters to you, and I'll narrow the list so you aren't scrolling through homes that don't fit.
