Ball fields and wooded trail at Crooked Creek Park in Indian Trail NC in autumn

What Does a Fall Weekend at Crooked Creek Park Tell You About Living in Indian Trail?

October 01, 2026•5 min read

A fall weekend in Indian Trail comes down to its parks. Crooked Creek Park and Chestnut Square give you ball fields, a disc golf course, a dog park, and courts close to home. What Indian Trail is still building is its dining, and you should hear that up front.

Quick Answer: Crooked Creek Park, at 5900 Oakwood Lane in Indian Trail, has a playground with a zipline, a dog park, an 18-hole disc golf course, and multiple ball fields, according to the town. Chestnut Square Park, at Matthews-Indian Trail Road and Chestnut Parkway, has shelters, fields, and courts that can be rented. Jennifer Ledford of The Ledford Group at eXp Realty tells Indian Trail buyers to measure the drive from any home to these parks, and to check the town's calendar for seasonal amenities.

I'm Jennifer Ledford with The Ledford Group at eXp Realty, and I work with buyers around Indian Trail and the rest of Union County. Weekends are one of the first things buyers want to picture. Here's a plan built from what the town lists, so you can decide whether it fits your life.

What is at Crooked Creek Park?

The Town of Indian Trail lists Crooked Creek Park at 5900 Oakwood Lane. The town's page names a playground with a zipline, a dog park, an 18-hole disc golf course, and multiple ball fields.

Other features I know of include a walking trail around a four-field baseball and softball complex, an outdoor fitness area, and a splash pad. The splash pad is seasonal, so confirm all of this on the town's calendar before you plan around it.

What is at Chestnut Square?

Chestnut Square Park sits at the corner of Matthews-Indian Trail Road and Chestnut Parkway. The town lists shelters, fields, and courts for rent. The Chestnut Square athletic facilities also include Carolina Courts, a basketball and volleyball center, plus lighted tennis and sand volleyball courts, as far as I know. Fields and courts you can reserve make a weekend easier to plan.

What would a Saturday look like?

Here's how I'd lay one out, using only places the town lists. Walk the trail around the ball fields at Crooked Creek Park. Bring the dog, since the park has a dog park. Play a round on the 18-hole disc golf course. Then drive to Chestnut Square to see what's on the courts and fields.

Check the town's park calendar first. Hours, events, and seasonal amenities change, and I'd rather you confirm than find a closed gate.

What is Indian Trail still building?

Dining. I'll be direct about it. The restaurant scene here is still developing, and most residents drive to Waxhaw, which is about 15 minutes away, or to Monroe or the Matthews corridor. The Indian Trail Town Center area has a grocery and daily-needs shopping, and Cane Creek Park, a Union County park of over 1,000 acres, is about 20 to 25 minutes away for bigger outdoor days.

Indian Trail is a growing town, and its amenities are catching up with its population. Some buyers like that trade: newer construction and more space, with a longer drive for a night out. Only you can say whether it works.

What neighborhoods should I look at?

Indian Trail has several newer communities, including Sanctuary at Southgate, Moore Farm, Rushing Park, and Union Grove. I haven't found a source that maps how far each one is from these parks, so measure it yourself, in a car, at the time of day you'd make the trip.

For first-time buyers, here's my short checklist. Visit on a weekday evening and again on a weekend. Check the drive to work. Ask what the HOA covers. Ask for the monthly payment at today's rate. Freddie Mac's average 30-year rate was 7.03% on September 24, 2026, so a payment you saw in the spring may be out of date.

Should I buy in Indian Trail?

That depends on your budget, your commute, and how you spend your weekends. If you want outdoor space, sports fields, and newer homes, Indian Trail is worth a serious look. If you want a walkable downtown with restaurants around the corner, you may want to compare it with Matthews or Waxhaw.

A park won't pick a house for you. A park you'll use is a good tiebreaker.
